1The meeting included a presentation by Dr. Thomas Schwair from Siemens Corporate Technologies group which explained Siemens' innovative solutions in new life-shaping technologies in energy, automation, transportation, health, IT and communication sectors.
Among the technologies highlighted in the Siemens "Technologies of the Future" meeting were:
Siemens aims to foresee the future customer demands and technology needs from today through its R&D efforts managed with the "Best way to predict future is to shape it through inventions" philosophy.
Siemens A.S. Chairman Zafer Incecik made the opening speech of the meeting, stating that Siemens is involved in all electrical and electrotechnical fields requiring knowledge and technology, and that the company created solutions to increase the profitability of its customers. İncecik said:
"The knowledge of our employees and the high technology solutions they create ensure our customers' trust and establish the power behind the Siemens brand. We are very happy to share the technologies of the future in Industrial Automation and Control, Information and Telecommunication, Energy Production and Distribution, Intercommunication, Medical Solutions and Lighting fields, and to open up the horizons for the next ten years."
Siemens allocates Euro 5.2 billion to R&D efforts every year, and employs 45 thousand researchers -30 thousand of which are software engineers- in 150 R&D centers. Siemens undersigned 8 thousand inventions in 2005; the company has 53 thousand active patents. Siemens is at the second place in Europe and within top ten in the world in terms of number of patents, and 75% of the global sales of the company consist of products under five years of age.
Siemens A.S. invested USD 11 million in R&D efforts in Turkey; and the company is planning to allocate USD 13 million in 2006. Siemens A.S. aims to increase its number of researchers in four research centers from 173 to 250 in 2006.
