The event has been held at two-year intervals since 2005 within the scope of the European Business Awards for the Environment Program for Turkey. Awards are distributed in three separate categories, namely Management", "Product", and "Process". This year, Siemens was honored with the award for "Management."

Siemens collected the EU Management Award this year, a distinction granted to the rare enterprises that exhibit strategic vision and continue to contribute to sustainable development with their management systems. In the statement made at the ceremony, Siemens was noted as earning the award due to the company's adoption of a general mission that supported sustainable environmental, economic and social development. Apart from this, it was stated that Siemens was given this award because it had adopted this mission in all of its policies, at the same time creating appropriate mechanisms that would address a wide array of issues in the area of social responsibility, such as public participation, employee rights, and the impact of the supply chain. It was emphasized that as a leader in its field, Siemens presented an exemplary model for other companies to follow, which was yet another factor leading to its accomplishment in the category of Management.

The "European Union Business Awards for the Environment" are organized with the participation of 27 EU members and among countries in the process of attaining EU membership. Given out by the European Commission, the awards have been set up within the scope of a series of national environment awards that recognize the achievements of companies that have been leaders in this area with their environment-friendly policies and products. The Awards seek to acknowledge the companies that have developed and implemented sustainable technologies and environment management systems, in short, to recognize the most responsible and innovative leaders in this field.
