The Iliad is a myth produced in Anatolia three thousand years ago... A myth that has dominated for three thousand years. It told the story of the fight between Akhas coming from Greece and Trojans, expert horse riders. Rage, pain, conspiracy, love and hope all got an expression with this myth. Iliad is almost real now, as it is not telling about dreams, but reality¢¢â€š¬¦ And Troia is the city that is the home of this myth...
Providing sustainable support to social responsibility projects, Siemens continues to support Troia Ören excavations works, which harbors one of the most important antic centers at the meeting point of Anatolia and European cultures. As one of the sponsors of Troia Ören excavations, Siemens also supports the Troia Foundation.
We believe that financing the building of a roof for the antic structure named megoran, in the Troia Antic City excavations, which is listed by UNESCO as a 'Cultural Legacy', is important in terms of protecting the rich history Turkey possesses.
As Siemens, we strongly support the preservation of this important work left from Bronze Age, and any works seeking to enhance the visual appeal of the place.
We are happy and proud because we know that our contributions not only reveal the history but also illuminate the future.
Prof. Dr. M.Osman Korfmann, who has worked hard to have Troia declared as Historical National Park in 1996 and listed in UNESCO World Cultural Legacy in 1998, had donated his library consisting of 6000 books written on Troia, Troas and Anatolia archeology, to Çanakkale-Tübingen Troia Foundation, just before he passed away.
The building which the Çanakkale Municipality assigned to the use of the Foundation for free, and which was built in the first half of 1900's and used as tekel warehouse for years, will from now on, be serving as "Çanakkale-Tübingen Troia Foundation M.Osman Korfmann Library". Many Çanakkale business men and leading companies and organizations like Kale Grubu, İçdaş, Siemens San.ve Tic AŞ, Akçansa, Doğtaş, Çasiad, Çanakkale Chamber of Commerce, Çanakkale Trade Stock Exchange have supported the works to convert the building into a museum.
From 1982 until 2005 when he died, Prof. Dr. M. Osman Korfmann, had carried out researches and excavations at Troia antic city and Troas region, and had founded Tübingen Foundation in 2003 in Germany and Troia Foundation in Çanakkale in 2004 so that his works could be continued. These two sister foundations support the excavations and works at Troia antic city as well as relevant academic works.
